STARGAZING
Dark night skies over a secluded meadow, and your own hot tub to watch them from
In short
Our huts sit in a secluded, hedge-lined meadow at Temple Bruer with dark night skies, ideal for stargazing, and almost no road noise. On a clear night you can watch the stars from your own wood-fired hot tub. The best nights are clear ones around the new moon, and your eyes need about 20 minutes in the dark to adjust.
When to look
Choose a clear night close to the new moon, when the sky is darkest. In winter it is dark by early evening, so you do not need to stay up late. Give your eyes about 20 minutes away from bright lights, and use a red torch, or your phone’s night mode, to find your way.
What you might see
In winter, Orion is easy to find in the southern sky. On clear, moonless nights away from town lights, the Milky Way can appear as a pale band across the sky. Two meteor showers are worth planning around: the Perseids, which peak around 12 to 13 August, and the Geminids, around 13 to 14 December. A free star chart app on your phone will name what you are looking at.
From the hot tub
“The hot tub was lovely under the stars and fairy lights,” one of our guests wrote. Light the tub in good time with the logs we provide, keep the dressing gowns close, and the hut’s heating will have it warm when you come in. Oak Hut faces south and Ash Hut faces east; the full list of what is in each hut is on our facilities page.
Questions about stargazing at Temple Bruer
Is Temple Bruer Glamping good for stargazing?
Yes. The huts are in a secluded meadow with dark night skies, and each has its own hot tub to watch from.
When is the best time to see the stars?
On a clear night around the new moon. Winter evenings get dark early, so you can stargaze before bedtime.
Will we see the Milky Way?
On a clear, moonless night it can show as a pale band across the sky, but it depends on the weather, so we cannot promise it.
Will we be warm enough?
Each hut has an air-conditioning and heating unit and a heated towel rail, and we provide dressing gowns.
